- Interactive session with ICANN and NBGP on Multilingual Domain Names: 31st August, 2018
The Neo-Brahmi script Generation Panel (NBGP) was formed by nine communities that use scripts derived from the Brahmi script, under the aegis of The International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). NBGP has developed Root Zone Label Generation Rules (LGR) for Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil and Telugu scripts. These additions will allow domain names to include Indian languages.
As per the LGR Procedure, the proposals on the LGRs have been posted for public comment to allow those who have not participated in the NBGP to make their views known. Based on the feedback, the NBGP will finalize each proposal for submission for integration into the Label Generation Rules for the Root Zone (RZ-LGR). The last date for posting comment is September 15, 2018.
To that effect, FICCI-ILIA organized an interactive meeting between its members and NBGP leadership and ICANN, to share the work done so far by NBGP and solicit comment and opinion from industry stakeholders and academia. The interactive meeting was held on August 31, 2018 at FICCI and was chaired by Dr. Ajay Data, CEO of Data Xgenplus and the head of ICANN panel country code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO), Mr. Samiran Gupta Head of India for ICANN and Shri Rahul Gosain, a Director with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India.
